“YES ROCK’s!” was implemented in 2018. The program targets the community youth, but has aspects the entire community can enjoy. We hope to continue the program indefinitely and look forward to the outcomes and opportunities this program will bring.
The program includes; youth art classes, adult art classes, life skills classes, youth hangouts (Friday and Saturday nights), with food, fun & learning. ROCK also provides family movie nights under the stars in the summer, and at the Dove Creek Memorial Hall during the winter.
All programs are free.
ROCK provides monthly food distributions throughout 2021 with the support of the Care and Share food bank and the Good Food Collective.
Between October and December of 2021 ROCK served an average of 129 food boxes to those who are in need of extra food support.
ROCK’s school snack program distributes a healthy snack every school day to all Pre-K through 5th grade students within the Dolores County School District RE-2J and Beyond the Nest Learning Center. Approximately 3136 snacks were distributed over the 2020-21 school year with an average 98 grade-school students served every school day.
ROCK’s summer lunch program fed two nutritious and balanced hot lunches a week to children between the ages of 0-18 at the ROCK building. In 2021, 257 lunches were served with an average of 32 youth served per week.
Free Holiday Turkeys are distributed for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. These are included within the regular food distributions during November and Decemeber.
Every year a wonderful list of ROCK supporters come together so that all Dolores County students K-5th, Beyond the Nest Pre-K, and 6th-8th and High School science classes can have the school supplies they need to succeed.
ROCK also has a group of dedicated volunteers to make sure the supplies are purchased and distributed to our Dolores County youth.
In 2021, ROCK distributed supplies to 226 youth throughout Dolores County and Egnar, CO.
At the same time we distributed school supplies, we also had a community celebration to kick off the new school year. This has become one our anticipated annual community celebrations.
ROCK has hosted Santa Claus every December since 2013. Most of the Dove Creek community comes together and sings Christmas carols and enjoys s’mores and chilli.
Kids leave with hearts and tummys full, along with hats and gloves. The celebration is one of the hallmark events of the year and is a time when the community gathers and enjoys being part of this special corner of the world.
ROCK’s 2021 Spooktacular Carnival took place as a Trunk or Treat carnival this year to ensure COVID safety. 12 vehicles, including the local Ambulance, Sheriff, and Search and Rescue created carnival games with their vehicles and parking space for our youth. The senior class also created a kid-friendly outside haunted house. We estimated serving over about 125 youth and over 100 families. ROCK estimated attendance for 2021 due to having the event outside.
ROCK’s 2022 Easter Egg Dash finally was able to happen this year! About 150 youth and their families came out to enjoy dashing for Easter eggs, getting their face painted, and meeting the Easter Bunny!
The last two years have been drive-through type distributions, and so this year was thoroughly enjoyed by the community.
